When a tooth experiences minor damage or decay, a filling is an effective way to restore health, appearance and function. The most common application of dental fillings is to repair damage caused by cavities.
A cavity is a hole in a tooth. When left untreated, food and bacteria can enter this void and cause major harm to the tooth. A dental filling allows us to seal the area and prevent further damage. A filling will add to the strength and structure of a damaged tooth and improve its function.
At Vue Dental, we are proud to offer natural-looking, tooth-colored fillings to our patients. Also known as white fillings or composite fillings, tooth-colored fillings are designed to mimic the natural appearance of the tooth. In addition to cavity repair, these restorations can be used for:
- Repairing fractured teeth
- Cosmetically changing the size and shape of teeth
- Closing gaps between teeth
- Repairing chipped teeth
When placing a filling, we start by removing any decay and existing filling material. Next, we thoroughly clean the tooth. We will then apply the filling material and allow the material to harden. Finally, we will shape and polish the structure. By doing this, the tooth will achieve a pleasing appearance and will blend in seamlessly. You will be able to use the tooth normally after treatment.
